Rover started in 1878 by making bicycles, pioneering the modern "safety bicycle." Car production began in 1904. The brand became known for its quality saloons, but its greatest success was the 4x4 Land Rover, launched in 1948. After a complex history of mergers, the car brand ceased production in 2005.
