Mahindra & Mahindra, founded in 1945 as Mahindra & Mohammed in Ludhiana, India, began as a steel trading company. In 1947, it entered automotive manufacturing by assembling Willys Jeeps under license. Renamed Mahindra & Mahindra in 1948, it expanded into tractors in 1961 and SUVs in the 2000s, becoming a global automotive leader.
