While primarily known for commercial vehicles, Hino's automotive history began in 1917 as part of Tokyo Gas and Electric Industry, producing the Model TGE truck. After several evolutions, Hino Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. was established in 1942. Post-WWII, they focused on trucks and buses, briefly producing Renault cars under license in the 1950s before concentrating on their strong commercial vehicle legacy.
