Founded by Herbert Austin in 1905, the company pioneered affordable motoring with the iconic Austin Seven. Merged with Morris to form BMC in 1952, it produced the Mini and Austin-Healey. The marque was phased out by the Rover Group in 1987.

The Austin Gipsy (1958–1968) was Austin's rugged, all-steel competitor to the Land Rover. Known for its advanced "Flexitor" independent rubber suspension, it was a capable off-road workhorse.
