Cupra, established as an independent brand in 2018, originated from SEAT’s performance division, SEAT Sport. The name “Cupra” combines “Cup Racing,” reflecting its motorsport heritage. The first Cupra-branded model was the Ateca SUV, launched in 2018. This was followed by the Cupra León and the Formentor, the latter being the brand’s first standalone model not derived from a SEAT vehicle. In 2021, Cupra introduced the Born, its first all-electric vehicle, based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform. The brand continues to expand its lineup with models like the Tavascan and plans to enter new markets, including the United States by the end of the decade.
