Established by Ford in 1938 as a mid-priced brand, Mercury aimed to bridge the gap between Ford and Lincoln. Offering more style and features than Fords, Mercury produced popular models like the Cougar, Capri and Grand Marquis. Facing declining sales, Ford discontinued the Mercury brand in 2011, ending its 73-year history.

The Mercury Capri nameplate spanned three distinct eras (1970-1994) as a sporty, often imported, offering. It ranged from European coupe to rebadged Mustang, and finally an Australian-built convertible.
First Generation (European Ford Capri rebadge): 1970-1978 (includes Capri II from 1976-1978). Second Generation (Fox-body Mustang rebadge): 1979-1986. Third Generation (Australian Ford Capri rebadge): 1991-1994.
