Proton, Malaysia’s first national carmaker, was founded in 1983 to advance local automotive manufacturing. Its inaugural model, the Proton Saga, launched in 1985, was based on a Mitsubishi design. Proton began developing its own vehicles, such as the Gen-2 in 2004. In 2017, Geely acquired a 49.9% stake, revitalizing Proton’s global presence.

Jumbuck

The Proton Jumbuck, produced from 2002-2009, was a small ute. Known as the Arena in its home market of Malaysia, its car-like handling and affordability made it a popular export.

The Proton Jumbuck is a single-generation model. It was sold in some markets like Australia until 2013, with production stopping in 2009. It was based on the Proton Wira platform.
