Firefly's iconic design combines function and aesthetics for a timeless appeal. Proof is in the numbers. And the goose bumps. Designed and engineered from the ground up, the EP9 delivers an unprecedented performance level and a driving experience unlike any other EV, with zero emissions. This kind of vehicle combination is a first in the EV world.
The EP9 embodies a new approach to performance vehicle design to handle the physical demands of 3G forces; with its structural solidity and aero efficiency to enable the required VMax speeds. 170+ Rounds of Computational Fluid Dynamics.
NIO designed a three-position active rear wing system and full-length floor diffuser which, in conjunction with the front adjustable splitter and fixed aero features allow the car to achieve twice the downforce of a current Formula One car. Active rear wing with 3 positions. Park. Low Drag. High Downforce. Twice the downforce of an F1 car.
When the downforce weighs more than an elephant (and the car), you can rely on EP9 to grip every racetrack with the same ease as if it were racing on the ceiling. 24,019 N of downforce.
NIO has built and engineered a car capable of delivering a 3G experience. Cornering at 3G exerts three times the force of Earth’s gravity onto EP9 and its passengers - something only typically experienced by F-22 fighter pilots. 3.30G longitudinal under braking. 2.53G Lateral cornering at 230 km/h.
With an interchangeable battery system, the EP9 is designed for track days and a user experience programme, allowing for quick battery changes and rapid charging. A complementary passive cooling system works alongside it to ensure optimum temperatures are maintained for absolute peak performance. 8 min battery change time. 45 min battery charge time. 777V full electric powertrain.
The NIO EP9 delivers one MegaWatt of power at the wheels through a NextEV powertrain that has been developed from the ground up. This is equivalent to 1,360PS. Peak power 1 mW.
Four inboard motor generating units (MGUs) allow for fast cornering and track stability levels that few EV cars have ever achieved. Peak torque - 1480 Nm at motor 7500 rpm. 0-100 km/h - 6334 Nm at wheels 7500 rpm.
Four individual 1:4.283 gearboxes regulate and control a seamless transfer of power from driver to car. Gearboxes - 1:4.283.
Offering a remarkable strength to weight ratio, EP9’s carbon fibre chassis is 70% lighter than steel. The EP9 chassis is designed to handle the physical demands of 3G forces, with the structural solidity to enable the required VMax speeds. Stiffness - 30,000 NM/DEG. Weight - 165 KG.
Due to its high performance envelope, the EP9 required a new and bespoke design of brakes. The braking system was engineered in partnership with Alcon utilizing Surface Transforms carbon ceramic discs. It achieves twice the brake torque capability of a GT3 car. Bespoke CCM-R front discs 408 x 40mm. Bespoke CCST rear discs 408 x 36mm. Bespoke caliper - 6 POT.
To handle cornering at three times Earth’s gravity a new construction and compound of tyre was designed for the EP9 in both wet and slick grades with both 19" and 21" performance alloy designs. 13 x 19", 10.5 x 21" Bespoke wheel rims with carbon inlays. 320/705 R19 Performance slick tyres. 295/35 R21 Show tyres with bespoke cut pattern.
An all new NIO-designed system controlled by 4-way adjustable dampers and a hydraulic third actuator maintains a consistent ride height allowing for high performance cornering at 3G at high speeds. 4-way adjustable dampers.
