The 1988 Maserati 228.

Aerodynamics with style — this, in short, is the theme that Maserati’s designers and engineers embraced in creating the 228 coupé. Its shape, defined by a distinctly wedge-like profile, highlights the fluidity of its curves and the dynamic flow of its volumes, suggesting exceptional performance even when the car is at rest.

But it is the details that confirm Maserati’s design philosophy — its craftsmanship, its attention to detail, and its advanced technology. The sloping hood merges harmoniously with the classic Maserati grille, whose rounded contours give it a fresh new look and rise toward the windshield, concealing the wipers from both sight and wind.

The exterior mirrors — electrically adjustable from inside — have a strongly aerodynamic form to prevent irritating wind noise at high speeds. The rear window, sharply raked and generously sized, connects smoothly to a trunk lid that offers an unexpectedly large luggage capacity.

Also noteworthy are the front and side turn indicators neatly recessed into the fenders and hood, the taillights perfectly flush with the bodywork, and many other subtle details to discover and admire — all part of the unmistakable Maserati style.
