The 1972 Citroen Mehari.

Mehari is the name of the Tuareg camel. Citroën’s Mehari truly is a kind of camel: it can carry 400 kg and uses no more than 6.1 liters of fuel per 100 km. What’s more, the Mehari is also a kind of rhinoceros: it doesn’t care about bumps or scratches. And finally, we shouldn’t forget that the Mehari is also a kind of car — just far more fun to drive than other cars.

Facts About the Mehari.

The Mehari can go anywhere. Its curb weight is only 535 kg, and combined with the engine’s output of 33 hp, this means the Mehari can go where it needs to go, when it needs to go — even in sand, snow, and on muddy country roads.

The Mehari is economical. The engine is air-cooled, which means a simple and robust design: no head gaskets, no coolant hoses, fewer moving parts, and therefore less wear. This results in fewer repairs and lower maintenance costs — saving money that can be spent on other good things.

The Mehari is practical. At once a smart leisure vehicle and a rugged utility van, capable of carrying a 400 kg payload — impressive for a vehicle of this size.

The new heating/defroster system ensures comfortable driving in both summer and winter.

Why is the Mehari different?

Because it’s a plastic car!. Have you ever seen a real car made of plastic? There are bottles, buckets, and all kinds of things made from plastic — but cars? Well, why not take advantage of this robust material’s many benefits in body construction?

A plastic body is so elastic that it immediately returns to its original shape, even if you accidentally bump into something. And small scratches or scuffs are hardly visible in the thick, solid-colored plastic material.

If one of the body panels should nevertheless break, it’s quickly solved — you simply discard the damaged part and fit a new one. It’s easy and inexpensive.

And finally, the biggest advantage of a plastic body: it cannot rust!

Yes — it pays to keep up with the times…

Who drives a Mehari?

The farmer with his chickens and his calf. The fisherman with his crates and his gear. The tradesman with his ladders and tools. The greengrocer with his flowers and fruit. The decorator with his signs and paint. The hippie with his guitar and all his belongings. The man of the house when the family goes away for the weekend. The lady of the house when the children go to school. Young people who want to enjoy life. Older people who have had enough of big cars.

In short: everyone who needs a vehicle that can go anywhere.
