1982 Audi Quattro. With its engineering, we’ve driven further into the future.

Audi Quattro. Its Unusual Design. The most remarkable feature of its design is its all-wheel drive system. Combined with a high-performance chassis, of a kind otherwise found only in racing cars, this drive system demonstrates all of its advantages on the road as well.

For example, its neutral cornering behavior: The understeer or oversteer common with conventional drive systems is virtually eliminated. This allows for higher cornering speeds and provides greater safety reserves at the limit.

Even straight-line stability at high speeds and the car’s response to throttle changes are improved by the all-wheel drive.

Naturally, this system truly comes into its own when it comes to transferring the generous power of the turbocharged engine safely to the road. The engine’s output is distributed to all four wheels, so that even on poor road surfaces, wheelspin is largely prevented.

Under extremely poor road conditions such as slippery surfaces, propulsion is maintained through the optional engagement of the standard differential locks for the center and rear differentials. Sunroof and rear wiper available at extra cost.

Audi Quattro. Its Aerodynamic Body.

The wedge-shaped body of the Audi Quattro deliberately avoids anything unnecessary. The demands of aerodynamics have helped create its timeless form. Large front and rear spoilers emphasize its sporty appearance and also contribute to its excellent handling, even at high speeds. They reduce lift when driving fast and further improve the already impressive aerodynamic qualities of the Audi Quattro.

The use of elastically deformable materials for the bumper covers and for the front and rear aprons means that minor parking bumps leave no lasting marks.

The 205/60 VR 15 tires have ample room within the flared wheel arches.

Good nighttime visibility is provided by twin halogen headlights with a headlight cleaning system and fog lamps integrated into the bumpers.

Large rear light clusters and a light strip with integrated rear fog lamp define the rear design.

The laminated safety-glass windshield features a green-tinted sunshade band along its upper edge to protect against glare from sunlight.

Audi Quattro. Its Economical Turbo Engine.

The characteristic feature of this turbo engine is its excellent power control, allowing drivers who value efficiency to drive economically. In combination with the fully synchronized five-speed gearbox, you can drive economically or sportily—depending on your mood—but always briskly.

The powerful five-cylinder fuel-injected engine is equipped with an exhaust-gas turbocharger and an additional intercooler.

This means: the exhaust gases drive a turbine, which then supplies the cylinders with pre-compressed air. As a result, the 2.2-liter turbo engine develops 147 kW (200 hp) at 5500 rpm, accelerating the Audi Quattro from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds and reaching a top speed of over 220 km/h.

The Audi Quattro thus combines the performance of a high-end sports car with the refinement and quiet running of a grand touring vehicle — typical of Audi’s renowned five-cylinder smoothness and reliability.

Audi Quattro. Its Sophisticated Suspension.

All four wheels are independently suspended on struts with lower triangular control arms, ensuring close and consistent contact with the road surface.

The proven toe-stabilizing steering geometry provides exceptional directional stability during braking on uneven road surfaces. This remains true even if the Audi Quattro’s wheels on one side encounter loose ground.

205/60 VR 15 tires on standard 6J x 15 light-alloy wheels enable efficient acceleration and have a positive effect on cornering behavior.

The power steering greatly eases maneuvering at low speeds, yet is tuned to be sporty and responsive, preserving excellent road feel even at high speeds.

The large disc brakes, with servo assistance and a brake-force regulator, deliver powerful deceleration and high safety reserves.

All these technical features together leave the driver of the Audi Quattro with an impression of driving safety never before experienced.

Audi Quattro. Its Comfortable Interior.

From the outset, we designed the generous standard interior equipment of the Audi Quattro to meet even the highest expectations.

The ergonomically shaped front sport seats, with height adjustment on the driver’s side, provide excellent lateral support and allow fatigue-free driving in an ideal seating position.

Up to three passengers can be comfortably seated on the rear bench seat. All seats are upholstered in high-quality velour, featuring a contrasting pattern on the seat and backrest surfaces. The same fabric is used for the door and headliner inserts. Color-coordinated carpets and trim panels give the spacious interior a warm and inviting atmosphere.

At extra cost, a luxurious leather interior (seats, door panels, and side trim) is also available.

A fast-responding, finely adjustable heating and ventilation system ensures clear windows and pleasant temperatures.

Frame-style headrests in the front and a rear seatback contoured in the head area, as well as seat belts for all five seating positions, are of course standard.

Audi Quattro. Its Clear and Functional Cockpit.

In the Audi Quattro, all essential information is displayed clearly and precisely on its innovative combined instrument cluster. What’s new is that speed, time, and fuel level are shown digitally. With the precise electronic readouts for engine speed, boost pressure, and coolant temperature, you’re always optimally informed.

In addition, the Audi Quattro features a check system that monitors around 15 different functions, such as oil level, cooling system, brake pads, and battery voltage. If a malfunction occurs, it alerts you via the loudspeaker, for example: “Attention — check brake fluid.”

An integrated onboard computer allows you to call up additional information such as instantaneous fuel consumption, average speed, or remaining range.

All important switches and control levers are within easy reach, even when wearing a seatbelt, and are arranged around the leather-covered four-spoke steering wheel.

The two electrically adjustable exterior mirrors are equipped with integrated heating elements, ensuring clear visibility even in freezing temperatures.
